First Half:

It was a lively start at the JJB as Wigan hosted top of the table Arsenal. The Gunners started how they left off at the San Siro, Emmanuel Adebayor was put through by Cesc Fabregas and top shot stopper Chris Kirkland denied the big Togolese striker.

Nicklas Bendtner started well, linking up well with his good friend Adebayor, even setting up a chance for Ade which he could of put away.

The match turned into a bit of a lull, few chances, and Arsenal willing to pass it along the back without creating chances. Fair play to Wigan, they pressured Arsenal well and wanted to carve out an important result.

The Gunners came back from the San Siro after beating the European Champions, they play a team with their only trophies: Auto Windscreen Shield and the Freight Rovers Trophy.  3 points coming up? Or a poor result coming Arsenal’s way? We’d find out in the next 45 minutes…

Second Half:

Wigan dominated the second half, they went close with several opportunities. Luis Antonio Valencia caused Clichy plenty of problems with his expansive style and clever skills.

Arsenal’s problem? Well, there was hardly any width, Kolo Toure came on to play on the right wing, RVP came on to play upfront, the latter looked very rusty.

You could sense Arsenal were going to drop points here at the JJB, and as the full time whistle approached, Cesc Fabregas was put through and Chris Kirkland made a super stop to deny the Spaniard and assured Wigan of a valuable point while Arsenal drop 2 valuable points.

Man United now have a game in hand, they will have the chance to go top next Saturday, and who do they play? Well, it’s fairly obvious, the team who they are most likely to get points off - Derby.
